Since novelist JUNG Bee-suk wrote this series on "Seoul News," "Lady Liberty" has been a famous story. Despite controversies among writers and critics over moral issues, this book was published and produced into a play by the theater company Shinhyup. The film also set a new box office record of 130000, and its success has brought the prosperity of melodrama. It has been proven that its cultural influence is enough to shake the foundation of Korean cinema, as there have been five sequels and remakes since the original version.
